Food Assistance Employment and Training (FAET)

The Food Assistance Employment and Training (FAET) program is designed to give individuals skills and experience to become employable. If you are identified as required to participate, you will be asked to complete the assessment process. During the assessment process, the agency will ask you to state your employment goal. Once your goal is declared, we will look at any barriers to reaching that goal and perhaps refer you to community services that would help to remove those barriers.

Once those barriers are removed, you may be required to participate in an activity for a specific number of hours per month. Those activities may include a Work Experience Program assignment. There are a variety of reasons why you may have had a difficult time getting a job. One of these may be lack of experience in your desired field. Your worker will help you develop a plan to place you in an activity that may give you that needed experience. Your participation at your work site can be listed as experience on a resume. You may also develop relationships at your site that could give you valuable resume references.

Services

Each participant is first provided with an orientation to program services followed by an individual assessment and completion of an employability plan. Depending on your needs, you may take part in job seeking training, group and individual job search activities, job placement and assistance with transportation or other supportive services. If you fail to comply with program requirements you are subject to sanctions and could lose Food Assistance Benefit eligibility.

Participation

Able-bodied adults who do not receive cash benefits from other public assistance programs may be required to participate in FAET Activities. People who are responsible for the care of a child under 6 or an incapacitated household member, who receive unemployment benefits, who work 30 or more hours per week may be exempt from participation. If you are required to participate, your worker will calculate your monthly participation hours and you will choose an appropriate assignment.
